A.J. Brown said what Eagles fans know to be true about DeVonta Smith

At least we agree on one thing.

Everyone just assumes that since star wide receiver A.J. Brown is off the Philadelphia Eagles roster, they don't have to worry about them anymore, but DeVonta Smith will have something to say about that.

Brown was traded to the New England Patriots for two draft picks, leaving the door open for Smith to take over as the WR1 on the Eagles. Smith and Brown were recently at a charity event for Patriots defensive back Christian Gonzalez, where Brown participated in a live stream with Twitch streamer Janky Rondo, who, a Washington Commanders fan, mentioned he was glad to see Brown out of the NFC East. That's when Brown let Rondo know about another man on the Eagles he needs to watch out for.

“Still gotta worry about Smitty.”

DeVonta Smith looks poised to have a monster season for the Eagles

Everyone seems to forget that a long time ago, Smith was a Heisman Trophy winner and Alabama's number-one receiver in college, helping the Crimson Tide to two national titles. This is a man who is no stranger to being a number one receiver.

During his five years with the Eagles, Smitty has had three 1,000-yard seasons and was the team's leading receiver last year with 1,008 yards, beating out Brown by five yards. Smith was already in that WR1 role in 2025, but no one noticed.

Eagles fans have long known that Smith has all the physical traits to be a number-one receiver, as he can win on one-on-one coverage and make all the tough catches needed in tight coverage. The reality is that Smith can do all the same things Brown can, but now doesn't have him casting a shadow over him.

Going into 2026, Smith finally has the door open to be that main guy with help from rookie Makai Lemon, Marquise "Hollywood" Brown, Dontayvion Wicks, and Elijah Moore. It might be the best supporting cast the Eagles have ever had at receiver, but none that has ever had Smith as the number one guy, which makes all the difference.

It's awesome to hear that even Brown admits that Smith is about to be dangerous for the Eagles, as he knows the truth. 2026 is the year that Smitty has been waiting for, as he is about to go off in the NFL with his best season yet.
