They finally did it. The Philadelphia Eagles have traded A.J. Brown off the team.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the deal is official, and the Eagles have traded Brown to the New England Patriots. In exchange, the Eagles will receive a 2028 first-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick.

The Eagles will save $7 million against the cap, and their dead cap hit will be cut in half by trading Brown after the June 1 deadline. All offseason, the Eagles and Patriots have been linked in a potential trade involving Brown.

Eagles trade A.J. Brown to the New England Patriots

Last season with the Eagles, Brown had his worst season with the team, finishing with 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns. He made the Pro Bowl twice and was a three-time second-team All-Pro in four years in Philly. Brown is the only receiver in franchise history to have four straight seasons with 1,000 yards receiving.

The Eagles can officially hand over the keys for WR1 to DeVonta Smith, who has posted three 1,000-yard seasons in the last four years and led the franchise in receiving yards over Brown by five yards. Philly added rookie first-round pick Makai Lemon, Marquise "Hollywood" Brown, Dontayvion Wicks, and Elijah Moore as replacements for A.J. Brown.

After the drama of the last two years of public frustration with the offense and the lack of targets, the situation has finally reached a resolution that everyone can be happy about. The Eagles add assets in the NFL Draft for the future, while the Patriots finally get their number one receiver for Drake Maye, whom they have been looking for all offseason.

Philly moves into the new era without Brown and can focus on building toward the 2026 season. Brown will be remembered as one of the best players in franchise history, but the time has come for the end, and it will benefit everyone in the process.
