These 3 Eagles position groups saw massive regression in 2026 offseason

They did not improve at all.

Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman did some great work in the offseason with the roster, but that doesn't mean the team doesn't have its concerns.

Roseman focused more on building the offense up with young players to prepare for the future. That left the defense without some key players in free agency, which really hurt the team.

The Eagles are left with three key position groups that did not get nearly the help they needed and could be in trouble in 2026. Here's a look at the positions that took the biggest hit in the offseason:

Three Eagles position groups that saw regression in 2026 offseason

Linebacker

This one might be a bit nitpicky, but losing Nakobe Dean still hurts the depth of the linebackers. Jihaad Campbell should be able to replace Dean easily in the lineup, and Jeremiah Trotter Jr. is ready to step up in the rotation at linebacker. Behind those two and Zack Baun is where the concern is and could hurt the Eagles down the line if someone like 2025 fifth-round pick Smael Mondon Jr. doesn't step up.

Offensive Line

As long as the starting offensive line stays healthy, the Eagles are in a good place. Behind those guys? Big, big problems.

The Eagles lost Brett Toth and Matt Pryor in free agency, leaving the depth of the offensive line in pure chaos. Fred Johnson is still there, and rookie third-round pick Markel Bell looks to be in a good position early on, but the rest of the line is filled with inexperienced players who either struggled in preseason last year or have little to no playing experience.

Safety

Losing Reed Blankenship was arguably the biggest loss of the offseason for the Eagles, as he signed with the Houston Texans. While the Eagles still have returning starter Andrew Mukuba back there, the safety position is the biggest headache on the roster right now.

Marcus Epps appears to be in line to replace Blankenship, and while he played well last year in relief of the injured Mukuba, he does not have the same playmaker skill set Blankenship has. There are others in the mix for the position, like Michael Carter II, who will compete for the job; the Eagles might still have to address it via a trade or free agency at some point this season.
