Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is just taking all the hits lately from the national media.

An ESPN report ripped into Hurts for being uncoachable, having bad body language, and for calling all four verticals down the field on the final play in the Wild Card loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Eagles fans would think that Hurts is the worst quarterback in the NFL with all these new reports coming out about him.

Well, the reports aren't ending, as a new one has now come out from Philadelphia Inquirer's Jeff McLane, focusing on Hurts' contract with the team. McLane shared what the team is thinking about moving forward with it.

"The Eagles have no plans to extend Hurts this offseason, NFL sources said, even though teams with franchise quarterbacks often restructure contracts to create salary cap in return for more guaranteed years."

Will the Eagles give Jalen Hurts a contract extension next year?

Hurts has three more years on his contract, but the important thing is that the 2026 season is his last fully guaranteed year, with $51.5 million coming in with the remaining $22 million coming in 2027. This is an important note that one Eagles source told McLane that the franchise quarterback is very aware of.

“'He knows this is the last year of his guaranteed money,' an Eagles source told McLane. 'He knows the cat’s out on some of his baggage. You got to be able to produce. You can’t be near the bottom of the league in passing two years in a row with the amount of talent that we have. It’s not acceptable.'"

So basically, Eagles fans are right back to the Hurts saga part, where everyone is going to start talking about a trade. Philly might use the 2026 season to determine whether Hurts will play beyond it or find a new home in 2027.

The only thing about a trade in 2027 is that the Eagles would lose $2 against the cap and have a dead cap hit of $67 million. That's a tough pill to swallow, but if they traded him in 2028, they would save $23.2 million of cap space.

This is 100% a very frustrating conversation to have, especially when Hurts has been a Pro Bowler three times, has been to two Super Bowls, has won one title, and has won a Super Bowl MVP. The reality is that while Eagles fans might hate it, this is starting to get more real than it ever has been, so let's hope for a Hurts comeback story in 2026.
