The Philadelphia Eagles were among 30 NFL teams stunned to see the Tennessee Titans trade defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons to the Chicago Bears. This might have actually been the best thing that could have happened to the Eagles.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the Bears acquired Simmons and a 2028 fifth-round pick. The Titans got two first-round picks and a 2027 fourth-round pick.

This seismic trade has massive implications for the Bears' run at the Super Bowl. Indirectly, though, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman might want to send some flowers to Chicago because they just helped him with their Moro Ojomo situation.

Howie Roseman might have something to work with regarding Eagles trading Moro Ojomo

Ojomo's name has come up as a prime candidate for a trade from the Eagles. He's currently in the final year of his rookie deal and is set for a massive offseason payday that Philly cannot afford.

In seven games this season, Ojomo racked up 18 tackles, 16 pressures, 13 hurries, three quarterback hits, and two tackles for loss in seven games. Pro Football Focus gave him a 53.9 overall grade, ranking him 83rd out of 126 interior defensive linemen. He also has a pass-rush grade of 53.9 (ranked 110th) and a run-defense grade of 54.5 (ranked 61st).

Since 2024, Ojomo has grown into a great defensive tackle who can provide pressure on the quarterback. While Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis get all the attention at that position, Ojomo has become better than anyone could have imagined for a former seventh-round pick.

All of that supports the idea that the Eagles could trade him before the deadline. Plenty of teams will be looking for a young starting defensive tackle they could pay $20 million to $25 million per year for. The question is what Roseman could get from an Ojomo trade now that Simmons has been dealt.

What should the Eagles ask for Moro Ojomo after the Jeffery Simmons trade?

If the Eagles wanted to trade for Ojomo, Roseman would be gunning for a third-round pick in either the 2027 or 2028 NFL Draft. That seems to be the asking price that most outlets have been projecting for Ojomo.

Tennessee got three draft picks in the deal for Simmons. The Eagles could either settle for a third-round pick or add another pick to the deal.

Roseman will be focused on collecting as many draft picks as possible over the next two years. The Eagles will be in salary cap hell for a bit with all the dead cap money they have to deal with, so draft picks will be the best way to offset it.

Eagles fans would love to find a way to keep Ojomo after all the good work he has done for the franchise, but the financial reality is that it won't happen. Trading him for at least a third-round pick would be massive, and that might not happen if the Bears hadn't overpaid on their deal for Simmons.
