You can often tell when the stakes our higher. The national media is only talking about four teams. Luckily one of those teams is our Philadelphia Eagles. They near their rubber match with the Washington Commanders. This coming game doubles as the most important in the rivalry's history.
The stakes are higher because the winner punches its ticket to the Super Bowl in New Orleans. No one is taking the Commanders lightly. We'd be foolish to, but you have to like Philly's chances. They are the favorites, and they appear to be close to adding reinforcements.
Eagles open Britain Covey's practice window and announce three other roster moves
Britain Covey led the NFL in punt return yardage at the close of the 2023-24 Eagles season. He was supposed to enjoy an expanded role in the offense but only appeared in five games.
He caught seven passes for 34 yards this season but has been on the injured reserve since December 28th because of a neck injury. Don't look now, but he may be nearing a return. Philly announced they were opening his practice window on January 22.
That was the highlight of a Wednesday afternoon team announcement and good news for the locker room culture. His value extends far beyond special teams. He inspires teammates. Three other roster moves were made at that time. This follows two others announced on Tuesday.
Here's what we know. Philly signed tight end Cameron Latu to a reserve/future contract. They also released wide receiver Elijah Cooks and defensive end K.J. Henry from the practice squad.
Tight end Nick Muse and offensive lineman Cameron Erving were both signed to the practice squad. All eyes are on Jalen Hurts though. Most of the conversations you'll hear this week will revolve around his Divisional Round knee injury. He spent some time in the medical tent but returned to finish the game.
Everyone expects him to play in the NFC Championship Game.
