It just wouldn't be a typical week without NBC commentator Chris Simms making sure the world knows he's pinning everything on Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts.
While appearing on The Howard Eskin Show, Simms didn't specifically name Hurts as the one to blame, but past context suggests he was referring to him when he said he thinks the true leader in the Philly locker room is A.J. Brown.
"When it became what three, four weeks ago when they just flat out asked him, 'What's the problem with the team?' He just said 'The offense.' I think he took a little leadership there a little bit because nobody in Philadelphia wanted to hear the truth and really what was going on. And I know from that locker room, everybody's getting blamed, coaches are getting blamed, houses are getting egged, everybody and the organization's looking around going 'Wait, we're all getting blamed for this?' and I think that's where A.J. Brown was like 'I've kind of had enough. Like, we're all getting blamed and there's one guy to blame and he's getting off scotch-free.' And I think that's where that kind of came from finally to bring what I would say is almost a leader in the locker room."
Is Brown really the true leader within the Eagles' locker room?
Brown has been very vocal about his frustrations with the offense, whether that's using social media with a cryptic post or straight up saying the offense is to blame for issues. Eagles fans can trust that he will say something. The truth is that Brown has been most accurate about the problems; the offense has not been great.
Philly is currently in the bottom 10 in total offense and in the bottom 15 in passing and rushing. These numbers have slowly gone up over the last couple of weeks, but compared to other Nick Sirianni offenses in his tenure as the head coach, this has been by far the worst offense in the last five years.
Now, Simms wants everyone to believe that Hurts should get 100% of all the blame for why the Eagles have struggled. To him, it isn't on Kevin Patullo's predictable, conservative play calling, it's not on the offensive line with Cam Jurgens and Landon Dickerson struggling with injuries when they shouldn't, and it's not on Saquon Barkley for not being able to produce big plays. It certainly isn't on Brown, with three drops in the Chargers game and multiple false start penalties this season.
No, it all falls on Hurts.

This isn't a knock on Brown as a leader, because he did indeed say what needed to be said, but Simms used that response to question Hurts again, and this is a tired, annoying argument from an analyst who apparently has something against him. It's odd for Simms to keep knocking on the point, but he will continue to do so.
