Training camp is always filled with significant injuries that can drastically impact the regular season, and the Philadelphia Eagles are finding that out quickly.
Luckily for the Eagles, they haven't faced many serious injuries at their training camp so far. It has mostly been minor injuries to guys like DeVonta Smith, Makai Lemon, and Cam Jurgens.
One of the Eagles' first opponents of the regular season, though, might already be in hot water when they play Philly. That's because they appear to have lost one of their Pro Bowl stars for much of the 2026 season.
Eagles most likely will face the Washington Commanders without Laremy Tunsil
NFL reporters Mike Garafolo and Steve Wyche reported that Washington Commanders starting left tackle Laremy Tunsil suffered a torn triceps in practice that will most likely require surgery. That injury would keep Tunsil out for a big portion of the regular season.
The Commanders and Eagles face each other in Week 1, meaning the five-time Pro Bowler most likely won't play in that game. Andrew Wylie and Brandon Coleman are both options for Washington to replace Wylie.
Philly now has a new advantage over the Commanders in the opening week with a clear offensive line problem. Tunsil has been protecting quarterback Jayden Daniels' blindside, which leaves the game plan very simple for the Eagles.
First, putting Jonathan Greenard on that side of the line only makes sense. Greenard has 24.5 sacks in 2023 and 2024 combined before injuries affected him last year with the Minnesota Vikings. The Eagles must have their best pass rusher on the weakest side.
This will mean, though, that the focus could be on doubling Greenard from the Commanders. For Philly, that would put more on either Jalyx Hunt or Nolan Smith Jr. to get pressure on the outside and do more of the pass rush since they should be one-on-one.
If the Eagles were basing things on the first two weeks of training camp, Hunt has been better, so he should get the start. It does present Smith with some opportunities to get some looks at getting to Daniels as well, though.

Injuries are never anything to celebrate. Unfortunately, the Commanders won't be at full strength for Week 1. The Eagles have to work with what they have, and with Washington's offensive line concerns, Greenard, Hunt, and Smith have a chance to feast in the first game of the season.
