With the NFL in training camp, it’s the time of the year when teams also have to deal with unfortunate injuries. That bug has made its way to the Philadelphia Eagles, with reports Tuesday morning that wide receivers DeVonta Smith and Makai Lemon both missed Tuesday’s practice with hamstring injuries.

While that’s certainly a concerning headline to read, fans can exhale because the injuries are not believed to be serious or long-term. While it does take the wideouts off the field for valuable training camp reps, the expectation is that Smith and Lemon will be back on the field sooner rather than later.

Philadelphia's cautious approach to injuries is becoming somewhat of a theme in camp, and it happened again during Tuesday’s practice. Star defensive back Cooper DeJean appeared to injure his left arm during practice, but eventually ran to the sideline, where he reportedly “looked fine.” However, he remained on the sideline for the rest of practice.

Cooper, just like the receivers, are very important to what Philadelphia wants to accomplish this season.

DeVonta Smith and Makai Lemon miss Eagles practice with hamstring injuries

Smith and Lemon are both expected to play big roles for Philadelphia’s offense this season, so their health is important. Smith, of course, is stepping into the role of WR1 after the trade of A.J. Brown, and he’s looking to elevate what has already been a productive career.

Entering his sixth season, Smith already has three years with over 1000 receiving yards. In the other two seasons, the wideout posted 916 and 833 yards. He has been a reliable receiver for the Eagles, and many people believe he’s capable of producing more with a larger role. Smith now has the opportunity to prove those people right, but he has to stay healthy.

Lemon, on the other hand, was selected with the 20th-overall pick in the 2026 Draft and enters the league with high expectations. After an exciting career at USC, everyone is looking forward to seeing what he can provide Philadelphia with his tough, dynamic skill set.

Unfortunately, injuries have been an early part of his story with the Eagles. Hamstring issues have forced him to miss time during the offseason program and now training camp. With the injury being downplayed, hopefully he will be ready to go when the season starts.

While Smith and Lemon need to be on the field, the Eagles did do a good job of building depth in their new wide receiver room. Philadelphia has guys like Dontayvion Wicks and Hollywood Brown, so the team has several pass catchers ready to contribute.
