Training camp has arrived for the Philadelphia Eagles, and every fan is excited to see how their new WR1, DeVonta Smith, will do.
The Eagles finally moved on from A.J. Brown in a trade, opening the door for Smith to finally get his time in the spotlight. Smith will be the top receiver on the team after being a WR2 for years under Brown. He has spent the offseason working for this moment and asking around about what it takes to be WR1.
Smith showed on social media how ready he truly is for the moment. On Instagram, for the last time before training camp begins, he posted a one-minute video of himself working out with narration, showcasing the work he has done in the offseason.
The DeVonta Smith hype should be real entering Eagles training camp
Since being a first-round pick in 2021, Smith has gone for over 1,000 yards three times in five years. Last year was the first time he led the team in receiving yards since Brown joined the team with 1,008. It was the first time since his rookie season that he led the team in receiving yards.
Smith has been ready for this moment for a long time, and some would argue that his performance last year showed that. He was a lot more reliable as a receiver than Brown was in stretches during the season. Smith might not have been getting as many targets as Brown, but he made the most of every catch.
This season will be different at wide receiver for the Eagles, though. The talent level in the room is the deepest the franchise has had since Jalen Hurts has been the starting quarterback.
Besides Smith, he is joined by Hollywood Brown, Dontayvion Wicks, and rookie Makai Lemon. Brown has the speed, Wicks has the size, and Lemon can do a little bit of everything. It's the perfect combination needed for the Eagles on offense.
And then there's Smith. Similar to Lemon, Smith can do a bit of everything, but he is elite at everything. He can catch contested passes, be a deep threat, run perfect routes, and has reliable hands no matter where Hurts throws the football.

There's no denying how good this Eagles wide receiver room is entering the 2026 season, but Smith is the star of the group, and he should be. He's earned this moment, and that workout video is exactly why he was born to be Philly's number one receiver.
