The Philadelphia Eagles were looking to get some help starting Week 14 to make their postseason run a lot easier through the final five weeks of the season. One team helped them out.
In the Week 14 opener, the Detroit Lions survived a shootout against the Dallas Cowboys, 44-30, as they moved to 8-5, while the Cowboys dropped to 6-6-1. All that momentum Dallas had after beating last year's Super Bowl opponents in back-to-back games has crumbled.
This was a big moment for the Eagles as they desperately needed help and got it from the team based in the Motor City. The NFC all of a sudden looks a little bit different after the Cowboys and Lions showdown.
How the Eagles stack up with the updated Week 14 NFC playoff picture
With the first look at the NFC East, the Eagles now have a three-game lead over the Cowboys, as Philly sits at 8-4 entering Week 14. This means that the Eagles need to win three of the last five games to clinch the division title over Dallas.
As for the NFC playoff picture in general, not much changed as the Lions just helped their chances of being a Wild Card team, but the Cowboys did a ton of damage to it. Philly still sits in the third seed behind the Los Angeles Rams in second and the Chicago Bears in first.
The Eagles will need some help this weekend as the Bears face the Green Bay Packers and the Rams take on the Arizona Cardinals. Philly will still not be in first place if both the Bears and Rams lose because Chicago will own the tiebreaker with the Eagles after the Week 13 result, but it will move the Birds that much closer to reclaiming the number one seed.

So far, Week 14 is going according to plan and the Eagles have to hope it keeps going, but they need to beat the Los Angeles Chargers most importantly for any of this to matter.
