No one is going to complain about the Philadelphia Eagles getting a spectacular game from their veteran tight end Dallas Goedert.
In the Eagles' 24-22 Week 1 win over the Washington Commanders, the spotlight was on Goedert after he turned back the clock and flexed his muscles. He led the team in receiving with four receptions for 77 yards and two touchdowns. His final 43-yard touchdown was a sight to see, after he used a spin move to open up a massive lane to score.
It was an incredible performance from the NFL's most underrated and underappreciated tight end. For one day, the Eagles could forget about the future mess they are dealing with from their second-round rookie tight end Eli Stowers.

Stowers was placed on IR after suffering several lower-leg injuries, leaving him out for at least the first four weeks of the regular season. It was the cherry on top of what has been one of the most disappointing starts for an Eagles rookie in quite some time.
He was nonexistent during OTAs and training camp, exposing the learning curve Stowers is going through. In two preseason games, he caught just three passes for 12 yards, further fueling the narrative that he is a disappointing rookie.
Some rookies develop more slowly than others, so it may be premature to call him a bust, but Stowers is certainly trending that way. The good news is that Goedert gives the Eagles every reason to be okay with Stowers taking time to heal and develop.
Philly has the perfect step-up at tight end for the moment, with Goedert starting and Johnny Mundt as the backup. Mundt showed early on that he can be the reliable blocking tight end this franchise has been missing for a long time.
Goedert is giving the Eagles quite the spark on offense. Quarterback Jalen Hurts is still trying to build some rhythm with the other new receivers, but he has complete trust in Goedert, so he'llrhythm throw it his way more often.
New Eagles offensive coordinator Sean Mannion has also brought in a scheme that is very tight end friendly. That means Goedert will really shine in the passing game, while Mundt gives Philly the extra blocker it needs in the run game.

The offense isn't perfect, but with 16 games left, there is plenty of time to fix it. At least they don't have to worry about Goedert being a problem, since he is one of the bright spots on this Eagles offense for now.
