There are plenty of fingers that need to be pointed at for who should be blamed for the Philadelphia Eagles' loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 14, but ESPN NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky is making sure one coach isn't taking all of it.
While many Eagles fans feel as though offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo still deserves blame for the loss, Orlovsky doesn't feel the same. During his appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, Orlovsky defended Patullo, saying he was encouraged by the play-calling.
"I actually liked a lot of the things that the Eagles did offensively. I was much more encouraged from the Eagles' offense last night than I was many games this year."
"Just the play calls, style of offense. They were way more scheme diverse, had way more route options. There were guys open more consistently last night than there have been all season. Now are there things that you sit there and gotta fix? Yes."
Should Patullo get any blame for the loss?
In general, the answer should be yes. This is Patullo's offense, and it continues to fall short of the expectations the team needs to meet. The offense has stars all over the place, yet it keeps looking average. There were some good things to consider.
Eagles running back Saquon Barkley had his second 100-yard game, scoring on a 52-yard run, which also happened only once in his other game when he ran for over 100 yards. The offensive line showed some improvement in pass protection, allowing just one sack in the game.
If fans only focused on the Chargers game, more blame has to go on Jalen Hurts. His five turnovers were absolute killers for the team. Besides the one interception that was dropped by A.J. Brown, the rest of those interceptions and one fumble solely fall on Hurts.
For the overall view of the season, Patullo has to take more of the blame. His play-calling has been predictable, and his third-and-long calls have been frustrating to watch.
He has failed to take offense with more than 50% of the Pro Bowls in his career and keep them in the top 10. Instead, they are in the bottom 10 in most offensive categories this season.

One game shouldn't give Patullo a pass on the season as he's got four more games to save his job.
