Darius Slay’s next team couldn’t be any clearer if Eagles indeed move on

Yeah... He hasn't officially been released, but we all pretty much know where he is headed if he is, right?

Even though we consider things to be inevitable, they can still surprise us when they occur. We've known for a while that, even though it was never announced, the 2024-25 Philadelphia Eagles season was sort of Darius Slay's swan song.

We aren't sure when that thought crossed our minds originally, but we've felt that way well before the Super Bowl ended and well before there was a playoff run to dissect. Here we are after the news broke that Philly plans to move on, and we're stuck.

Wow! This could happen. It isn't official yet, but Philly reportedly plans to move off of Darius Slay.

Truthfully, we shouldn't be surprised. This is one of those times when football transforms itself into that 'business' we keep hearing it described as. The Birds are expected to designate him as a post-June 1st release to save themselves $4.3 million,

And, most already believe they know where the six-time Pro Bowler is headed if that is indeed what they do.

The Lions are the obvious landing spot for Eagles star Darius Slay

It seems like forever since this has happened, but before a great five-year run in the City of Brotherly Love, Slay played for the Detroit Lions. Seven NFL season's in the Motor City produced his first three Pro Bowl nods (2017-19). He led the league in interceptions in 2017 and was named First-Team All-Pro.

Slay recently appeared on Amon-Ra St. Brown's podcast and lamented he wouldn't be opposed to spending his final NFL season with the Detroit Lions. Truthfully, that makes a lot of sense. The Lions could certainly use some help and veteran leadership on the defensive side of the ball.

They say we should never count chickens before they hatch or, in this case, wins before the game clock expires. We spent a considerable portion of the most recent season believing the Birds and Lions would meet in the NFC Championship Game.

But, the Washington Commanders took care of that.

The Commanders will be among the legitimate contenders in the National Football Conference next season. So will the Lions. The former will officially announce Deebo Samuel's addition once the new league year starts. We'll see if we're right and Slay finds his way back to the latter.
