The Philadelphia Eagles have massive decisions to make about their roster, particularly four impending free agents that most rank among the NFL's top 50. Zack Baun is the priority. Josh Sweat and Milton Williams are expected to land with other teams. We'll see what happens with Mekhi Becton.
We aren't math wizards by any means. We went to journalism school, but we understand the basics: additon, subtraction, multiplication, division... Learning to balance a ledger or checkbook was certainly something that came early.
So, we sometimes have to concentrate when studying the salary cap, but we can promise you something. Seeing that cap rise is a good thing. That's helpful, but it also helps the other 31 NFL franchises. The offseason will be competitive.
The new league year begins on March 12 at 4 p.m. EST. Two days prior, legal tampering begins. Philly is getting a jumpstart on everything as they announced on March 3rd they are releasing a team captain.
Eagles will reportedly release Darius Slay.
We can't say we're shocked. We knew a team with so many roster decisions to make would have to expect they'd be forced to make tough decisions. They do so during the first week of March. Darius Slay will be released with a post-June 1 designation. As ESPN's Adam Schefter states, that will save the team $4.3 million against the cap.

We certainly thank the man we call 'Big Play' for his work here. His leadership helped elevate the play of others, and he played the big brother role to rookies Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean. Both finished as AP Defensive Rookie of the Year finalists.
During his five seasons in the City of Brotherly Love, he collected 272 tackles, nine interceptions, including two pick-sixes, 56 pass breakups, and a forced fumble in 74 regular season games. He added another 37 tackles, a pick, and seven PBUs in nine postseason starts.
Slay leaves the nest having won three of his six Pro Bowl nods here. He's forever a legend, and now, he's a Super Bowl champion.
