Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has 24 players on the current 2026 roster who are set to be free agents in 2027.
The first five weeks of the season have been used to see how they are doing and what the future holds. It's becoming clear that if Philly keeps trending down, some players in the final year of their contracts may not return next year and might not even make it through 2026.
After five games, we'll take a look at a few key pending free agents to see how they are doing. Some of them might actually be trade candidates depending on how the next few weeks go.
Examining key 2027 Eagles free agents and how they are looking through 5 games
Moro Ojomo, DT
Ojomo may not be getting the sack numbers, but he has applied 13 pressures and 11 hurries in the first five games of the season. He has actually seen more improvement in his ability to stop the run than in his pass-rushing abilities.
It appears that Ojomo could be one of the top candidates to be traded since he could command north of $20 million per year, which the Eagles can't afford. For Philly, it makes more sense to potentially get some value from him in a trade and move Ty Robinson and Byron Young up the depth chart to start getting some experience.
Riq Woolen, CB
Woolen has been pretty solid this season despite allowing a passer rating of 102.8. He had a tough moment in the Week 5 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars game where he allowed a Parker Washington touchdown, but overall has played well.
This is another case where Woolen is making a pretty good argument for being a trade candidate for the Eagles. He will want more than what they are paying him, and Philly would rather have draft picks and find his replacement in the draft if they are not in playoff contention in a few weeks.
Dallas Goedert, TE
Goedert missed a bit of time this season due to his Week 2 injury, but he had a clutch catch in the loss to the Jaguars that put them in field goal range. The trust that he has from Jalen Hurts makes it hard to even think about whether they should trade him.
Philly has Goedert in the last year of his contract as well, leaving open the possibility of him being traded. It feels less likely for the Eagles to do so, but anything is possible depending on the season.
Michael Carter II, S
Carter has been outperforming fellow final-year contract safety Marcus Epps and is making somewhat of a convincing argument to stay. The Eagles would most likely not look to trade Carter or Epps since they are already lacking depth at the safety position.
This section of the article is more about the fact that Epps has played his way out of Philly, but Carter might be buying himself another season in Philly. He has certainly earned it.
Tyler Steen, G
Major kudos to Steen for battling and coming back into the Jaguars game after hurting his shoulder. He only lost one drive, but he played a hell of a game considering the other issues the line had, with three different starters since Week 1.

For the season, Steen has allowed five pressures and one quarterback hit, with a Pro Football Focus grade of 70.9, ranking 18th out of 75 interior offensive linemen. I refuse to back down on this opinion, but Roseman better find the money to extend Steen and let that man out of the building before the 2026 season.
