All good things must come to an end. Jordan Love learned that harsh lesson vs. the Philadelphia Eagles. He had gone seven games without throwing an interception. That streak and the Green Bay Packers' season ended in the Wild Card Round.
He tossed two interceptions in the first half of Sunday's game. He threw another on his final throw. The Pack gave the Birds a run for their money, but the better team made more plays (and, they won).
Give the game's MVP trophy to the Eagles' defense.
Vic Fangio's defensive unit shut out the Packers by a 10-0 margin in the first half of Sunday's game. They allowed ten total points all evening vs. an offensive coach and a capable offense.
Fangio's guys have been consistent all season. They were the top-ranked defense in the league once the regular season had ended. They fielded a top-five passing defense, the second-best pass defense in the league. The Wild Card Round was a microcosm of all of that. They were impressive.
The second quarter began with a Darius Slay interception on a pass intended for Dontayvion Wicks. That was Slay's first INT since Week 7 of the 2023-24 season. He left the game momentarily with an apparent arm injury but thankfully returned.
Love's second interception came less than 15 minutes later. All-Pro Zack Baun (we LOVE saying that) picked off a pass intended for Malik Heath. Love's final pass attempt of the season wound up in the waiting hands of Quinyon Mitchell, the first of Q's career.
Baun will now be asked to step up more with Nakobe Dean potentially off the field and out of the lineup, but how about another round of applause for the defense? They deserve it. Philly has a lot to clean up offensively. Let's hope for a better effort in the Divisional Round.
