The Philadelphia Eagles always hope their draft picks work out, but it's incredibly frustrating when those picks perform better elsewhere.

Unfortunately for the Eagles, they got their first glimpse of that in the first batch of preseason games. This instance came from the Green Bay Packers after their 28-9 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Although the Packers didn't do well, they got a standout performance from a former 2025 Eagles draft pick who struggled last year. Apparently, he's on the path to success in Green Bay.

That's right. Kyle McCord had a great game. Lombardi Ave's Freddie Boston named McCord as one of the winners from the Packers-Steelers preseason matchup.

"At no point did McCord make any "wow" throws or look like a quarterback destined to become the main backup, but he looked comfortable. McCord completed 12 of 16 passes for 102 yards with a 91.1 passer rating, while scrambling for 10 yards.

It wasn't a breathtaking performance by any means, and none of his drives led to touchdowns, but McCord did enough to all but wrap up the QB3 job.

His most impressive moment came in the two-minute drill before halftime. McCord led a six-play, 35-yard drive that took just 46 seconds off the clock, giving Smack time to hit one of his 58-yard field goals. McCord completed four passes in the two-minute drill, including a 10-yard pass to Savion Williams and a 12-yarder to Isaiah Neyor, before hurrying up the offense to spike the ball."

In his rookie season with the Eagles, McCord struggled mightily in training camp and in the preseason. He finished by completing just 42.9% of his passes for 191 yards and one touchdown to two interceptions.

It was rough watching McCord try to adjust to the NFL game with the Eagles. He was inaccurate with the ball and turned it over a lot.

Since leaving Philly, though, things seem to be going pretty well for McCord after a rocky start with the Packers. He looks to have the third-string QB job locked up and could develop into the Packers' long-term solution at QB2 when Tyrod Taylor retires.

As for the Eagles, the McCord experience caused them to trade for Andy Dalton and draft Cole Payton in the fifth round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Dalton and Payton have both been up and down, but still seem to be significant upgrades over McCord.

It clearly didn't work out in Philly, but McCord seems to be in a much better spot in Green Bay now. Can't be mad at the man for being good with them now, so good for him. It would have been nice to have that kind of performance last year, though, but that's water under the bridge now.
