A former Eagles first-round draft pick is coming out of Sunday a winner, helping the Vikings get to 2-1 as the team goes into Week 4. Wentz, who wasn't signed until the end of training camp, was thrust into the starting role as 2024 Vikings first-round pick J.J. McCarthy is currently sidelined with an ankle injury.

Wentz and the Vikings took off business against the Bengals, who were ironically dealing with quarterback injuries as well. Wentz put together an extremely serviceable performance, going 14 of 20 for 173 yards, two touchdowns, zero interceptions, along with adding four rushing yards. The Vikings routed the Bengals 48-10, even allowing rookie quarterback Max Brosmer to make his NFL debut, going two of four for 29 yards.

Eagles fans have tracked Wentz's journey since leaving Philly in 2021

Wentz's journey since leaving the Eagles has been less than linear. After unsuccessful attempts with the Colts and Commanders, he's reverted to a veteran backup since 2023, taking roles with the Rams and the Chiefs the past two seasons. Now with the Vikings, Wentz has the opportunity to possibly have a bit of a role reversal at this stage in his career.

In 2017, Wentz was putting together a career year that may have ended with an MVP honor if not for a torn ACL. Enter Nick Foles, a memorable playoff run, the "Philly Special", and the Eagles winning the Super Bowl. Three seasons later, Wentz was traded to Indianapolis and has struggled to find his footing since.

Between the struggles of McCarthy in two games, coupled with his injury, it shouldn't shock many if Wentz was able to put the Vikings on a bit of a run to contend for a playoff spot. While the timetable of McCarthy's injury is unknown right now, if Wentz continues to manage the Vikings offense as efficiently as he did on Sunday, maybe he finds himself garnering some stability (or a statue) at the end of this season.
