While there might be some who would caution the Philadelphia Eagles from pursuing recently available cornerback Darius Slay, most fans' hopes for that reunion to be true just got better.
NBC Philadelphia's John Clark reported that if Slay clears waivers, there is mutual interest between the former Eagles starter and Philly. The Pittsburgh Steelers just released Slay after not even finishing a year there.
Playing in 10 games, Slay racked up 36 tackles, three pass deflections, one tackle for loss, and one fumble recovery. He made nine starts for the team, but he was a healthy stretch in Week 13 against the Buffalo Bills, which led to Pittsburgh and Slay mutually agreeing to let him walk.
Slay to Philadelphia just makes all the sense in the world
Eagles fans have been feeling the pain of Slay and Isaiah Rodgers' departures this offseason. Adoree' Jackson and Kelee Ringo ended up being less than stellar choices at CB2 to work alongside Quinyon Mitchell.
Slay would be able to plug in instantly as a starter, since he has experience with Fangio's defense from last year. While he didn't have a single interception last year, Slay still performed well as the Eagles' CB1 with 13 pass deflections, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.
There is some truth to the fact that Slay's play has regressed this season with the Steelers, but there could be multiple factors at play. Pittsburgh's defense hasn't been as good as it has been in the past 10-15 years, and the offense has put that same unit in some tough positions.
This might end up being the beginning of the end of Slay's career, but a chance to contend and start again would be all good reasons for him to return to the place he called home for five years. He made three Pro Bowls as the starting cornerback of the Eagles, and no matter the turnover on defense, Slay was always reliable.

With the injuries to safety and the poor play at CB2, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman would be crazy not to bring Slay back and get him into the starting lineup as soon as possible.
