Eagles make it hard on themselves but finally break a season-long jinx
They just can't make it easy on themselves, can they? If you had money on Grant Calcaterra and Ben VanSumeren hauling in the first two receptions on the afternoon, give yourself a gold star. No, better yet, move to Vegas, grab a job at one of those casinos, and help us put some lines together. By now, you've probably heard. The Philadelphia Eagles have scored first-quarter points, but they couldn't make it easy on themselves.
On their first drive, they, for some reason, tried to send Kenny gainwell up the gut on a third-down attempt. Then, while lined up in 'Brotherly Shove' formation, they tried were charged with a false start penalty before snapping the ball to try some weird looking trick play.
Yuck.
Oh well... Even when playing a bad football team that is banged up, a little luck is involved. Philly's first drive stalled, but Michael Clay's unit came through with a huge play on the ensuing punt.
The Eagles have finally scored first-quarter points.
We kind of knew this would happen. The Jacksonville Jaguars are a bad football team. Plus they're dealing with injuries, so that's how you end up with a backup punt returner on the field that finds himself in the sights of Sydney Brown.
That look like it hurt! But, that's good for our Birds. Credit Syd and Kelee Ringo with the assist. All that's left is for Philly to call a play that places Saquon Barkley on the pass pattern.
You've heard this several times. Philly was the only NFL team entering Week 9's action that hadn't scored points in the first quarter of their games. They broke the jinx of never winning in Cincinnati last week. This season's scoring jinx is also gone. LeSean McCoy certainly got off to a great start in the City of Brotherly Love.
