Philadelphia Eagles finally break the jinx in Cincinnati vs. Bengals
They don't play often. Due to that AFC-NFC thing, the Philadelphia Eagles and Cincinnati Bengals only meet once every four years unless they clash during a Super Bowl. They only meet once every eight years in Ohio's Queen City. Their last clash came in 2020, Joe Burrow's rookie season.
How's this for reference? Here's how long it's been. Carson Wentz was Philly's starting quarterback. Wow! That's all we can say about that one.
These two franchises have met 15 times. Cincy holds an edge in the all-time tally with a 9-4-2 edge. The first game produced a Bengals win that almost mirrored the score of the most recent meeting.
The Eagles are NO LONGER winless in Cincinnati!
The first Eagles vs. Bengals game occurred in September of 1971. That one ended with a 37-14 score in favor of the hometown Bengals. The most recent battle was also in Cincy. This time, the Birds were on the right side of the final score, a nearly identical 37-17 win in favor of Philadelphia.
With that, the jinx has finally ended.
Stop us if you've heard this before. Before Week 8's beatdown, the Eagles had never beaten the Bengals on their home turf.
A hard-fought Eagles win saw up-and-down moments, but Phily finally got the monkey off their backs. They are no longer winless in Cincinnati.
Five previous Eagles trips to 'The Natty' produced four losses and one tie in 2008. Things didn't begin well during the most recent either.
Joe Burrow was surgical, crafting a ten-minute opening drive. He completed 11 of 12 pass attempts. He and his teammates converted all five third-down attempts on the drive.
Philly battled back and tied the game by halftime. The defense came up big in the third and fourth quarters. Unfortunately, Darius Slay was lost to injury. Hopefully, he'll be okay.
The huge takeaway in this one, however, will be Philly's most complete win of the season. They are 3-0 since the bye week. They have outscored the opposition by a 85-36 margin these past weeks and are beginning to look like a Philadelphia Eagles team that we thought we'd see all season.
