Philadelphia Eagles fans have a hard time agreeing sometimes. They're loyal, but anything can lead to an argument. Is that hard to believe? Mention Carson Wentz the next time you hang out with a few, and watch what happens when the debate begins.
That's the beauty of this great game we love though. So much of our discussions can be subjective. Some things can't be argued. Guys can run a 4.3-second 40-yard dash or they can't, but free agency will certainly birth some water cooler talk.
The consensus so far has been pretty consistent. There are 17 impending free agents on Philly's roster. Most see Zack Baun as the top priority signing. The most commonly asked question is how do we rank the other guys after him in terms of their extension's importance?
Eliot Shorr-Parks is 94 WIP-FM's top Eagles insider. He joined the station's Morning Show on Thursday. Most of the more discussed guys were mentioned, but a recent write-up by ESP suggests he thinks a fan favorite might be heading elsewhere.
Eliot Shorr-Parks believes there's a slim-to-none chance that Milton Williams is on the Eagles roster next season.
"Williams is going to get at least 3 years, $60 million-ish, with $25m guaranteed and very likely more guaranteed than that. Could be upwards of $30m or $35m+ if teams really like the upside."
Those were the words of one Eliot Shorr-Parks in his free agency preview on Milton Williams.
ESP also stated the following:
" I don't think he gets the $50m, but (I) wouldn’t completely rule it out. If there is one player the Eagles should pay big money for this offseason it is Williams.
The chance to retain a homegrown talent like Williams at his age and ability is one worth paying big money for."
For those who don't know, we love ESP around these parts. Once upon a time, one of our editors at ITI passed away, and he was the first to reach out with condolences because he considered us to be "family".
That being said, we have a special place in our hearts for him, but we respectfully disagree. We think Milton's chances of returning are higher.
We, as most, believe Zack Baun's extension is Philly's top priority. We'd rank Williams and Josh Sweat as the most important signings after that, and depending on the day, we'd probably rank Williams' extension as more important.
Williams has already been quoted as saying he'd "for sure" like to remain with the Birds. Does Philly value the edge rusher (Sweat) over the interior defensive lineman (Milton Williams). That's probably what the decision will come down to.
