Eagles' Jalen Hurts disrespectfully lands on list no QB wants to be on

When will the slander end?

By now, Philadelphia Eagles fans understand that their franchise quarterback, Jalen Hurts, is one of the NFL's most polarizing players. Folks either love him or hate him for one reason or another.

It's no secret that Hurts' detractors believe he's a product of the shiny toys around him, yet this time, the slander has gone too far. FanSided's Jason Reed conducted an in-house survey to find out who the most overrated player in the league is. And unsurprisingly, the three-time Pro Bowler not only made the cut, but he also finished pretty high on the list.

Based on a "points system" derived from "every NFL Division Site Expert [ranking] their top three" candidates, Hurts was No. 3. Frankly, the critiques against him are nothing new, albeit still maddening.

"Winning a Super Bowl in dominant fashion and ending a dynasty in the process apparently isn't good enough to avoid an overrated tag," Reed wrote. In fact, all the team success around Jalen Hurts is exactly why he landed on this list in the first place."

Why is Eagles star QB Jalen Hurts among the NFL's 'most overrated' players?

All Hurts has done upon becoming the Eagles' starting signal-caller is win — a lot. He's gone 56-22 in 78 starts since 2021. In fact, only Buffalo Bills superstar Josh Allen (60) and Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs (57) have more regular-season victories during this stretch.

If we include the postseason, Hurts also has two Super Bowl appearances and a Super Bowl LIX MVP to his name. Oh, and he came in second on the MVP ballot back in 2022. Just in case Philadelphia's record and achievements with him under center weren't enough, the dual-threat playmaker has the individual accolade to silence the doubters too.

Name a championship-caliber QB who hasn't benefited from a strong offensive line and a dynamic skill-position group. Feel free to look back at any squad that has ever hoisted the Lombardi Trophy, or even come close.

The anti-Hurts case would be much stronger if his stats weren't as great as they are. Statistically speaking, it'd be one thing if he wasn't operating at such a high level. The numbers paint a much different picture that clearly supports his status as a game-changing talent, though.

Over the past four seasons, excluding the playoffs, Hurts is near the top in the following key metrics among 38 qualifying passers (h/t Brenden Deeg of theScore):

  • Second in total touchdowns (138)
  • Sixth in total yards (16,102)
  • Ninth in expected points added per play (0.159)
  • 11th in passer rating (97.5)

To Hurts' credit, he's never let the noise get to him. It hasn't always been pretty; however, that's football (and life). His too-cool-for-school demeanor fits the City of Brotherly Love like a glove.

Does Jalen Hurts deserve more respect?

No offense, but the "would Philly be as good, or dare we say better" argument with someone other than Hurts isn't the strongest selling point. The same goes for if he represented another club in a worse environment. Using an elite supporting cast as a counter overlooks other aspects of the situation in an attempt to diminish his accomplishments.

Lest we forget, Hurts overcoming having a different voice in his ear has almost become an annual tradition at this point. He's entering 2026 with a new offensive coordinator and play-caller for the sixth and seventh time, respectively, since entering the pros in 2020.

How many other guys can keep it pushing despite the constant flux, especially at such a critical position? Hurts has managed to keep the ship afloat and consistently remain among the more efficient throwers in the game amid the near-perpetual coaching turnover. His adaptability and willingness to grow from the turmoil rather than being consumed by it is nothing short of remarkable in itself.
