Eagles legendary defender had most brutal Kevin Patullo takedown yet

Things are getting ugly in Philadelphia.

Well, although the Philadelphia Eagles still have a firm grasp on the NFC East, and therefore a home playoff game, it certainly feels like the sky is falling. The Eagles' offense just hasn't been the same since the bye week, or really all year, and it's the main catalyst for the team's current three-game skid.

On Monday Night Football in Week 14 against the Los Angeles Chargers, it was more of the same. Philadelphia's offense mustered just 19 points and turned the ball over five times, and failed to take advantage of three Chargers turnovers. They've scored 20 points just once in the last five games.

Kevin Patullo might have severe burns from the hot seat he's been sitting on for weeks now, and it defies logic that Nick Sirianni hasn't re-assigned play-calling duties or taken them over himself. The Eagles can't keep wasting these talented players in a championship window.

Seth Joyner is (once again) questioning Kevin Patullo's competence

Legendary Eagles defender Seth Joyner, as always, had some strong words for the team on Sports Radio 94 WIP. His Tuesday morning takedown of Patullo might be the most brutal one yet, but also the most spot-on.

"You tell me, how many plays that we run and have success with, do you see us flip the formation (and) run it on the other side? How many times do you see it again?" Joyner asked. "It's almost like he's got this bag, (a) grab bag of plays. And (Patullo says) 'I'm just gonna pick (randomly). Let's run this one! Oh, let me throw that one away, because we're not gonna run that one again.' ... It doesn't make any sense."

That about sums things up in Philadelphia. The Eagles will have success with certain concepts and put together great drives, but completely abandon those ideas on the next possession. The only constant is Patullo's ineffective third-down bubble screens, which make fans want to rip their hair out.

Joyner went on to criticize Patullo's in-game approach, not just with how he calls plays, but with how he operates on the sideline.

"The things that they succeed with, they don't consistently come back with it. And they don't have other plays that are built off of the things that they have successes with," Joyner said. "They're almost like one-offs. And he's got his sheet in front of him, 'Alright, let's run this.' And they run it, and every other coordinator that you see in the National Football League, what do they do? They got a pen in their hand, and they're taking notes. Do you see our offensive coordinator doing that kind of thing?"

Once again, Patullo's competency is rightfully being questioned. Obviously, Jalen Hurts is playing the worst football of his career, but the Eagles' play-calling isn't making things any easier on him because they won't do what he and the team are good at.

Saquon Barkley finally had his first breakout performance since Week 8, and it was completely squandered. Apparently, Patullo would rather have Hurts throw twice as often as Barkley runs in a game where the former threw four picks, and the latter ran for 122 yards on 6.1 yards per rush.

Patullo is the biggest thing holding this Eagles team back from running the table and becoming back-to-back Super Bowl champions. Sirianni needs to act accordingly, or else the fan base will start to seriously question him just a year after bringing a Lombardi Trophy to Philadelphia.
