This season seems to be a wash for the Philadelphia Eagles, as they sit at 2-6. They dropped six straight games, and it looks like one of those years. With the playoffs looking like a dream at this point, the Eagles should be sellers at the deadline.
This past offseason, they signed cornerback Riq Woolen to a one-year, $12 million deal, but it hasn't gone according to plan. With the trade deadline on Nov. 10, they need to accept that it was the wrong decision to sign Woolen and trade him to the Detroit Lions before the Washington Commanders jump in front of them.
Eagles need to rethink their Riq Woolen plan before the Commanders act
Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer discussed potential trade options ahead of the deadline and listed Woolen as a choice for the Lions. In that same conversation, he named Washington Commanders CB Mike Sainristil as a possible target.
The Lions are 32nd in the NFL in pass defense (276.6) and are tied for 32nd in passing touchdowns allowed (18). They are looking to make an addition to their secondary, and the Eagles should call Detroit to see what they want in return.
When Woolen and the Eagles agreed to terms in March, they thought he was going to be a nice addition to an already talented secondary. Yet, it hasn't unfolded that way, and they should move on from him now and get something in return. The longer they wait, the more they open the door for the Commanders to get ahead of them and land something from the Lions instead.
Eagles must confront their Riq Woolen whiff before Commanders pounce
Woolen has started in all eight games for the Eagles in 2026, logging 30 total tackles, six pass deflections, and one forced fumble. In coverage, Woolen has had his fair share of issues. He's allowed 24 catches (43 targets) for 365 yards and three touchdowns. His passer rating allowed is listed at 107.2, while giving up a 55.8 percent catch rate.
In addition to those numbers, Woolen has been a flag magnet. He's tied for first among CBs in penalties (seven), tied with the Cardinals' Denzel Burke and the Texans' Kamari Lassiter. So not only is he having problems in coverage, but he's also been prone to committing penalties.
With how the season is going for the Eagles, and the fact that Woolen is on a one-year deal, Philadelphia might as well move him for an asset. The odds that they re-sign him this offseason appear low, so they might as well get a pick instead of letting him walk for free.
It doesn't help that their division rival has a cornerback floating on the trade market. The Commanders are another team whose playoff chances look slim. Head coach Dan Quinn is on the hot seat, and they could be sellers at the deadline.
With the Lions clearly searching for help in the back end, GM Howie Roseman might as well move on from Woolen. They are already being linked to Detroit, and with the deadline approaching, they need to accept that signing Woolen was a mistake and get some kind of return for him.

If they continue to wait, there's a chance the Commanders get a pick from Detroit. While it likely won't be a pick within the first two days, every asset for the future is valuable, and based on how Woolen's tenure with the Eagles has gone, they should move on now before the opportunity passes.
