The 2026 season appears, for all intents and purposes, to be for the Philadelphia Eagles after they lost their sixth straight game in Week 8 to the Washington Commanders, 27-10.
After starting the season 2-0 and leading the NFC East, the Eagles are now 2-6 and dead last in the division. With the season pretty much done, Philly may be shifting its focus to the 2027 campaign and figuring out what it needs to do to get back in the Super Bowl conversation.
This is where Eagles fans would love the team to start tanking for the best possible draft pick in the 2027 NFL Draft. So, let's take a look at how Philly is doing in that department and what the draft looks like for them.

Updated 2027 NFL Draft first round order and where Eagles land
1. Los Angeles Chargers (0-7)
2. Tennessee Titans (1-7)
3. Miami Dolphins (1-6)
4. New York Jets (from Indianapolis Colts) (2-6)
5. Philadelphia Eagles (2-6)
6. New York Jets (2-6)
7. Houston Texans (2-5)
8. New Orleans Saints (2-5)
9. Washington Commanders (2-4-1)
10. New York Jets (from Dallas Cowboys) (3-5)
The Eagles moved up one spot and are officially in the top five of the 2027 draft, according to Tankathon. Unfortunately for Philly, the Colts' blowout loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars moved the Jets up to number four overall since they own Indianapolis' pick.
Still, the good news is that the Eagles are well within striking distance of the No. 1 overall pick, but they need the Chargers, Titans, Dolphins, and Colts to start losing games. It might be hard, with the Titans and Colts already making trades and taking the first steps toward tanking for the season.
Philly has to play the New York Giants in Week 9 before the bye week, so there's a good chance the Eagles could move to 2-7. After the bye, the Eagles have the Pittsburgh Steelers, Dallas Cowboys, Arizona Cardinals, Colts, and Seattle Seahawks. They could lose all those games, but they could also win some and still make it, which is a scary stretch for the tanking.
Eagles' 2027 draft picks overview
- First Round: Own pick (currently projected fifth overall)
- Second Round: Own pick
- Third Round: Own compensatory pick (from Vikings-Jonathan Greenard trade)
- Fourth Round: Own pick
- Fifth Round: Own pick + New England Patriots pick (from A.J. Brown trade) + Baltimore Ravens pick (from Cam Jurgens trade)
While the Eagles might be shorthanded on some Day 3 picks, they are in a prime position to use all their selections to rebuild the roster. That top pick will be crucial, with the Eagles looking to have a top-five pick for the first time since trading up in 2016 to select quarterback Carson Wentz.
The fifth-round selections are the big ones to watch, as the Eagles could use them in upcoming trades. They might be able to flip the Patriots' and Ravens' fifth-rounders to add another fourth-round pick and get better talent if they really like someone.
Top draft prospects for Eagles to target
Jeremiah Smith, WR (Ohio State)
The Eagles will have to do a lot more work to move up in the draft to get Smith, but he is a no-brainer target despite the team already having a strong receiver corps. He is a game-changer that is hard to pass up: he has 1,067 yards and 13 touchdowns with the Buckeyes (both second in the nation). Philly will have to take ve a lot of measures to stop him, but imagine this Eagles offense being unstoppable with Smith there.
Colin Simmons, EDGE (Texas)
Simmons has all the tools to be a great NFL edge rusher, as he currently has 10.5 sacks this season for the Longhorns. He looks like a top-five pick and someone the Eagles could use after having so many struggles with their pass rush in 2026.
Leonard Moore, CB (Notre Dame)
Quinyon Mitchell needs a long-term solution at CB2, and Riq Woolen isn't the guy. Moore appears to be someone the Eagles would love to have in their defense, as he has five pass deflections with the Fighting Irish this season. He may not be the turnover machine he was last year with his five interceptions, but he can start right away on the outside for Philly.

Dylan Stewart, EDGE (South Carolina)
Stewart has some effort and character questions after a dramatic 2026 campaign with the Gamecocks, but this guy can flat-out play. He has three forced fumbles and two sacks this year. He might fall in the draft and could be perfect for the Eagles to help him mature, as they did with Jalen Carter, while also getting a freakish athlete.
