Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has certainly made mistakes in the past, as does every person in his position. This Jonathan Greenard move he made in the offseason, though, is looking as horrendous as anything he has ever done.
During the 2026 NFL Draft, Roseman wanted an elite pass rusher, so he traded two third-round picks to the Minnesota Vikings to acquire Greenard. The Eagles also went all-in on Greenard with a four-year, $98 million contract extension.
This seemed like a smart move since the Eagles passed on giving Jaelan Phillips $30 million a year, as the Carolina Panthers ended up doing in free agency. Boy, Roseman was completely wrong to make that decision. Not only that, but it might end up being the worst mistake the Eagles' general manager has ever made.
Jonathan Greenard has been an Eagles nightmare from the beginning
Right when training camp began, the disaster of this trade was on full display when Greenard injured his pectoral and was expected to miss little time. Well, that turned into him missing all of training...and then the beginning of the regular season.
Greenard didn't step on the field until Week 3 against the Chicago Bears, when he played that game and another game. Then, against the Jacksonville Jaguars, he missed another game with an ankle injury.
In total, Greenard has played in five of the eight games. He has racked up five pressures, three hurries, two tackles, one quarterback hit, and one forced fumble.
In the Eagles' 27-10 Week 8 loss to the Washington Commanders, he recorded one tackle in 21 snaps. According to NBC Sports Philly's Ryan Fowler, Greenard has just one pressure in his last 40 pass-rush snaps across three games.

He has a single QB pressure in that span. One.
The Eagles are paying Greenard roughly $24.5 million per year to not produce a single sack. Awesome (said in the most sarcastic tone ever).
What can the Eagles do about this Jonathan Greenard mess?
Sure, Roseman has made his mistakes in the past. Drafting Jalen Reagor over Justin Jefferson or giving Bryce Huff over $50 million for three years. This Greenard decision, though, might be his worst move yet.
Many Eagles fans are already calling for the team to move on from Greenard and cut their losses. Their anger is justified since they paid so much money to see a banged-up edge rusher do little to nothing with his reps on the field.
The reality is that the dead cap and financial burden of letting him go would be catastrophic to the Eagles. This team already has enough problems with its finances, and the last thing it needs is more financial problems.
There might be a small opening in the next two years to do it without it being a financial burden, but it is technically too early. The Eagles would be smart to give Greenard the rest of the season and 2027 to figure it out.

As frustrated as Eagles fans are right now, let the process play out and see if the 2024 Pro Bowl can get better on the field. For now, though, this looks like a disaster that Roseman has created for this team.
