How do we describe the past few days? A slow news cycle, other than the Nick Sirianni and Howie Roseman press conference? Perhaps, we're looking at this wrong. Maybe we should be thankful. This has given us a chance to rest before the Philadelphia Eagles and each of the other 31 franchises descend on Green Bay for the 2025 NFL Draft.
Make no mistake. We've had much to talk about. There are theories that Howie Roseman is potentially thinking of trading up. The rumor mill began churning a little harder once Howie discussed his addiction to being aggressive and his constant lack of patience.
Fear not, friends. These are the Birds. They're never short of a couple of mentions. One of which came courtesy of the 2025 draft class's top running back.
Eagles news: Ashton Jeanty compares himself to Saquon Barkley.
Typically, we'd steer clear of evaluations that compare established NFL stars to draft prospects or rookies who have yet to take a snap in a game that counts. When the prospects compare themselves to stars, all bets are off.
That has been the common takeaway from a recent Ashton Jeanty write-up. Timelines were flooded with reactionary pieces about the Boise State star 'comparing himself to Saquon Barkley' when a glance at his comments reveals that isn't what the player was saying.
Ashton Jeanty is universally graded as the best running back in this class. Recently, he penned A Letter to NFL GMs for The Players' Tribune and stated the following:
"Most people, they watched the Eagles win the Super Bowl a couple of months ago, they watched Saquon run through everyone in the playoffs, and they thought to themselves, This is amazing," Jeanty wrote. "I watched it and I thought something different. I thought, That can be me."
Okay, so as you can see, that wasn't that bad, but moving forward, the best practice might be avoiding statements that place the names of an NCAA star and NFL Offensive Player of the Year in the same sentence. In this case, however, we'll give Jeanty a pass. At least he didn't offer A.J. Brown a backhanded compliment like Cam Ward did.
And, speaking of A.J. Brown...
More Eagles news: A.J. Brown offers a late April Fools' Day joke.
March flew by. The tax deadline came and went, and now, we near the end of April, as evidenced by the aforementioned NFL Draft. As always, our great nation's fourth month began with April Fools' Day.
It appears A.J. Brown got the memo two and a half weeks late. Or, maybe he's been hearing all of the discussion about him on 94 WIP-FM.
It's no secret that A.J. tunes into Philly's sports station from time to time. If he's done so recently, he has no doubt heard the discussions by some of the on-air talent
Whew! That was close! 11 had us for a second there, but maybe there's a lesson in this. One of the topics this week centered around whether or not the Birds should explore the idea of tapping into potential trade partners.
We briefly mentioned slow news cycles earlier. Maybe visiting A.J. Brown's social media channels is the perfect elixir for all that ails us. Maybe, all we need to do is listen to WIP's Midday Show and pick many of their discussions about the Birds apart.
Or, we can do both.
