The biggest story coming out of the first practice of the week for the Philadelphia Eagles was the return of rookie first-round pick wide receiver Makai Lemon.
After missing over three weeks of training camp due to his hamstring injury, Lemon returned to practice fully and completely off the injury report. He even found his way onto the starting lineup, playing in the slot with the first team.
For Eagles fans, this was a welcoming sight to have Lemon back in the hope that he can reclaim his starting spot and prove that he was worth the trade-up in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Another new receiver on the team, though, makes sure nobody forgot about him.
Eagles' Makai Lemon excitement can't let people forget about Dontayvion Wicks
NBC Sports Philadelphia Eagles reporter Dave Zangaro shared his observations of the first practice before their preseason finale against the Cincinnati Bengals. Zangaro talked a lot about Lemon, but also wanted to give some love to Dontayvion Wicks, who had yet another great practice.
"Even with Makai Lemon back at practice, Dontayvion Wicks reminded everyone why he’s probably going to start the season as the Eagles’ No. 2 receiver. Wicks caught a pass in 7-on-7s and got upfield thanks to a great block from DeVonta Smith.
But Wicks’ biggest highlight play came when he managed to get both feet inbounds on the right sideline. Jalen Hurts’ pass on this rep was pretty impressive. He was able to threat the needle while rolling to his right."
Wicks has had a great training camp and has proven himself as the team's WR2. His size gives the Eagles what they will be missing with A.J. Brown after the team traded him to the New England Patriots.
From Day 1, it's felt like Wicks and Hurts have built quick chemistry unlike any of the team's new receivers. It leaves many Eagles fans wondering how Wicks was so forgotten by the Green Bay Packers over the last three years.
Wicks had 581 yards and four touchdowns in his rookie season with the Packers in 2023. After that, though, his numbers dipped each season, and he was forgotten about in the Green Bay offense.
This training camp is all about making sure no one ever forgets about Wicks again. Eagles offensive coordinator Sean Mannion knows how good Wicks can be from their time with the Packers together over the last two years, and he certainly has not forgotten about the receiver.

Before Eagles fans get excited about Lemon practicing, let's not forget about the guy who hasn't missed a single day. Wicks looks more than ready to be the WR2 on this team and finally have the breakout season he's been waiting for.
