Eagles could be repeating a Super Bowl mistake with Kellen Moore

The Philadelphia Eagles haven't even popped the champagne after throttling the Washington Commanders by a 55-23 scoreline that seems very hard to believe. Offensive coordinator Kellen Moore deserves plenty of praise for how he has this team rolling to their fourth Super Bowl in the last 25 years.

Moore has been so highly regarded as an assistant coach that he has bounced between multiple high-profile offensive coordinator jobs. This year may have been his finest yet, as Saquon Barkley ran for 2,000 yards and Jalen Hurts put together an efficient, nearly turnover-free season.

This has attracted the attention of the New Orleans Saints, who need to find a replacement for Dennis Allen. After the Cowboys hired Brian Schottenheimer, the Saints could be zeroing in on Moore as the final vacancy yet to be filled. Doesn't this sound eerily familiar to Eagles fans?

The last time they were heading to a Super Bowl, both coordinators in Shane Steichen and Jonathan Gannon took head coaching jobs with the Indianapolis Colts and Arizona Cardinals, respectively. The latter's hiring was a sore spot for fans, as he interviewed during the team's Super Bowl prep. Could more hi-jinx be afoot for the Eagles this time around?

Eagles repeating Jonathan Gannon mistake amid Kellen Moore Saints buzz

Gannon's defense was ripped apart by Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl, surrendering 38 points in the loss. The Eagles set a record for most points scored in the Super Bowl by a losing team, showing how a distracted Gannon impacted their game plan and performance.

Moore going to the Saints, even with all their cap issues, could make for an interesting fit. Derek Carr remains locked in as the starting quarterback, the division is very weak, and ownership is committed to spending in the name of building a winner every year.

If the Eagles lose Moore, this could be a serious gut-punch to their offensive structure. If the Saints foolishly decide that Moore isn't what they are looking for in a head coach, Philly could run it back with the same coaching infrastructure that dominated the NFC this past season.
