The biggest story coming out of Philly this week has been Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert's knee sprain, which will keep him out of the Kansas City Chiefs game on Sunday.
Eagles fans are all too familiar with this situation as Goedert has missed 15 games in the last three seasons. The experience of that has led to a lot more success than some might think.
The Athletic's Eagles reporter Zach Berman shared an interesting stat regarding how the team has done in 45 games with Goedert and 15 games without him.
"Since 2022, the Eagles have played 45 games with Dallas Goedert. They're 33-12 with an EPA/play of 0.06.
The Eagles have played 15 games without Dallas Goedert. They're 13-2 with an EPA/play of 0.10."
How are the Eagles better without Goedert?
Philly's game plan doesn't exactly go off the rails without Goedert, but there is a different look at how things are done. The Eagles have been more of a running team over the last three years and will do more of the same. Last week in their 24-20 win over the Dallas Cowboys, the Eagles ran the ball 38 times versus 23 passes, and that was with Goedert in the lineup.
Berman added some more commentary on what the Eagles could look like without Goedert in the lineup via X.
"One thing I'd watch, based on past games when Goedert was absent: The use of a sixth offensive lineman in heavy packages.
(Game plans can always evolve, of course. But this would remain logical, especially given the profiles of the non-Goedert TEs on the roster.)"
The Eagles have Grant Calcaterra and Kylen Granson on the 53-man roster. Cameron Latu or E.J. Jenkins would be eligible for elevation from practice squad.

This would open up the running game more often, as the Eagles tend to try to get Saquon Barkley on those outside runs or pull guards on the inside to create big runs. Eagles fans know all too well that if Barkley gets an open lane, he's got the breakaway speed for a big run. Barkley led the NFL last year in 40+ yard runs with seven.

Watch for Eagles receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith to have bigger roles in the passing game with Goedert out. Philly has shown that no matter who is injured, they can still be the best team on the field.
