With training camps opening, it is officially time for the Philadelphia Eagles to start their Super Bowl defense. And, while the vibes in Philly should remain high, one NFC East rival has already seen a drastic turn of tone as they opened training camp of their own.
The Dallas Cowboys kicked off camp and owner Jerry Jones was given a microphone, again, for some reason. I suppose that's something that cannot be avoided when you've got that much money along with team control.
When speaking to Cowboys media, Jones commented on Micah Parsons and the star pass rusher's contract situation. For those who might not be following, Parsons is in line for a massive extension and the Cowboys still have yet to pay him.
"Just because we sign him doesn't mean we are going to have him. He missed six games last year," Jones told the media.
Eagles fans can only laugh as Jerry Jones misses the mark entirely
The funniest part about Jones' comment isn't even the fact that he seemingly throws Parsons under the bus for getting injured (obviously something the player cannot control).
The best part is the fact that Jones didn't even have his facts straight. Parsons only missed four games -- not six.
And just when you thought it couldn't get more embarrassing for the Eagles rival, Jones didn't stop there. He went on to take a shot at franchise quarterback Dak Prescott by alluding to the fact that the Cowboys made him the highest-paid quarterback, at one point, only for him to go on and sustain a serious injury.
Call it ignorance. Call it an elderly man without a filter. Call it whatever you want.
We're just going to call it hilarious.
If this is how Cowboys training camp is starting, I suppose the positive for them is that it can't exactly get much more embarrassing.
I mean, the Cowboys don't have their franchise pass rusher signed. Their cornerback room is in serious trouble. The running back depth chart is laughable, at best, and front-loaded with veterans past their best years.
And now, their owner continues to act foolishly.
Let's just say the Cowboys still aren't posing much of a threat.
