Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman was willing to risk it all to get one of the best young defenders in the NFL.
FOX Sports NFL insider Jay Glazer shared on the network's pregame show more details about the Eagles reaching out to the Dallas Cowboys regarding four-time Pro Bowl edge rusher Micah Parsons. Glazer told the television audience that Philly offered two first-round picks, one third-round pick, one fifth-round pick, and, as he said, "amongst other things."
Always a funnnnn start to a season when I get to throw punches with @AaronRodgers12 AND, even better, AT @michaelstrahan. Ok wayyyyy better at Strahan 😂😂😂. That and the inside story on the Micah Parsons trade @nflonfox pic.twitter.com/VUPrHEtAiw

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter already reported last week that the Eagles had reached out to the Cowboys back in the summer about acquiring Parsons, but Dallas was not interested in accepting an offer from an NFC East team. Instead, the Cowboys made the trade with the Green Bay Packers in exchange for two first-round picks and defensive tackle Kenny Clark.
The Eagles might have dodged a bullet with the Parsons trade
Credit to Roseman for trying to make a bold move, one that would have been franchise-defining. That price tag he was willing to give up, though, is way too much. Even for Parsons.
The resume of Parsons is impressive. He has been to four Pro Bowls, two All-Pro selections, Defensive Rookie of the Year, and has had at least 12 sacks in each of his first four seasons in the NFL.
It would have been a news-shattering situation that might have broken the internet more than the Cowboys-Packers trade did. Would it have been smart for the Eagles to do that?
Philly would have struggled financially with trying to pay Parsons while making decisions on key players over the next two to three years, including Reed Blankenship, Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, and Jalen Carter. That would have set the franchise back significantly after the 2025 season.
Roseman ended up winning the deal as the Cowboys only picked up two drafts picks and lost their star defensive player to an NFC team. Philly saved themselves from losing four picks and potentially some players.

The thought of Parsons in Midnight Green would have been nice, but the Eagles are better off where they are at right now.
