Quarterbacks gain most of the attention on a football team, More often than not, they are asked to be the face of a franchise, but the City of Brotherly Love is a different animal. There isn't a Philadelphia Eagles fan who wouldn't notice Dallas Goedert if they saw him walking down Broad Street or through Pattison Avenue to hang out at Xfinity Live! Philadelphia.
On one hand, he's hard to miss. He stands at six-foot-five and tips the scales at 256 pounds. On the other, Birds fans are that much in love with their football team.
The Eagles did it! They promised after winning the George Halas Trophy that they'd go to New Orleans and return with the Vince Lombardi Trophy! That's exactly what they did.
They've been busy since they returned home, so imagine our surprise when Dallas Goedert agreed to sit down with Inside The Iggles to discuss some of the journey and the challenges he faces on and off the field.
Dallas Goedert opens up about his relationship with Amgen and personal experience that led to partnership for a good cause.
Most of our conversations about Dallas Goedert have involved his ability to block defenders and catch the ball with equal proficiency. We've spent the last month or so discussing that wicked stiff arm during a catch and run to the end zone during the Eagles' Wild Card Round vs. the Green Bay Packers.
There is seemingly nothing Philly's star tight end can't do. We've often looked at him as being invincible, often taking for granted that he'd ever have to face the same challenges that we mere mortals face.
During a recent conversation with him, we learned he has struggled with plaque psoriasis for over 20 years. This often causes flaky and rough plaques all over his body, which have impacted him both on and off the football field.
We spent about ten minutes with Dallas on the Tuesday following the Eagles' Super Bowl LIX win. It's a good thing we were able to catch up with him too. He shared that Fletcher Cox invited him to his home for a steak dinner.
It's easy to get lost in Goedert's love for the game and his Eagles teammates, but, one of the most impressive things that we learned is he is now partnered with Amgen. Their goal is to share advice for others struggling to manage the same autoimmune condition Dallas deals with. It's a common form of psoriasis. More than six million adults live with that challenge daily.
Plaque psoriasis starts inside the body and causes scaly, uncomfortable patches on the skin. Philly's star tight end shared there have been times in which he's been in locker rooms with teammates and has had to battle feelings of inadequacy, at times being embarrassed about having others witness any breakouts on his skin.
But, like the warrior he's always proven to be, he presses on and fights back, not against broken bones in this case, but to champion a cause that is both important and near and dear to his heart.
