Not many Philadelphia Eagles fans were feeling particularly good about the team as they tried to recover from the devastating 23-19 NFC Wild Card loss against the San Francisco 49ers.

Most fans probably spent the night lying in bed thinking about all the missed moments from the Eagles that could have helped them win the game. All the drops from A.J. Brown and the final drive drop by DeVonta Smith all live in the Eagles fans' minds and probably in their nightmares as well.

Eagles running back Saquon Barkley can relate, as he went through the same thing. When Barkley talked to the media the day after the loss, he shared what went through his head the night of the 49ers' loss.

"I had a hard time sleeping, sad how the season ended. Reflected on myself first, where I want to improve on as a player," Barkley said via The Athletic's Zach Berman. "And it's a lot. I feel like I was great at times, but I wasn't consistent enough throughout the season."

Saquon Barkley left with a lot to think about after Eagles' disappointing season

Barkley is a great leader of the Eagles and is too often too hard on himself; the team, in general, deserves equal blame for the season's pitfalls. The Eagles still put together a respectable 11-6 record and won the NFC East, but there were definitely big problems with the team.

To Barkley's point, he was inconsistent throughout the season, but that's because the offense as a whole was inconsistent. The first finger points to now former Eagles offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo's play-calling as part of the problem, but injuries to the offensive line and receivers not getting open also played a critical role in that happening.

Nothing seemed to have worked out for the offense, no matter how involved Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni got in the offensive game plan. There were no answers to the problems with the unit, which has now gotten to the point that, reportedly, the Eagles are looking to make massive changes to the offensive coaching staff.

Barkley will have a long offseason to think about things, but his 1,140 yards and seven touchdowns are still nothing to balk at. He had a good season, but expectations are higher in Philadelphia, so expect him to come back with revenge on his mind in 2026.
