Young was the sixth overall pick of the 1973 NFL Draft, selected by the Eagles after playing his college career at USC. He was a two-time All-American and won the national championship with the Trojans in 1972.

During his impressive four-year run with the Eagles, Young made the Pro Bowl three times and was a first-team All-Pro as a rookie in 1973. That season, he caught 55 passes for 854 yards and six touchdowns. He finished second in the Offensive Rookie of the Year voting, losing to his former college teammate and Buffalo Bills running back O.J. Simpson.

Young would finish his Eagles career with 197 catches for 2,583 yards and 12 touchdowns. After his four years with the Eagles, he would go on to play nine more years in the NFL, spending three years each with the Los Angeles Rams, the San Francisco 49ers, and the Seattle Seahawks.

During that nine-year run, though, Young never reached the kind of level that he did in Philly. He ended his NFL career with 418 receptions for 5,106 yards and 27 touchdowns in 187 games during a 13-year tenure.
