Imagine telling reporters that your team has the best cornerback room in the NFL when it isn't the Philadelphia Eagles. New York Giants corner Greg Newsome II did exactly that during his press conference.
"Yeah, I think, man, like I said, I think we got the best cornerback room in the league when you talk about depth and just guys having the ability to play. I feel like all of us can be out there Week 1 and play at a very elite level."
Newsome has been in the league long enough that no one is buying that. Why's that? Because Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean exist on the same team.
Why the Eagles have the best cornerback room in in the NFL
Just for the fun of it, let's look at the numbers for Mitchell and DeJean in 2025.
Mitchell finished the 2025 campaign with 45 tackles, 17 pass deflections, and one fumble recovery in 16 games. He allowed a completion percentage of 44.3% and a passer rating of 64.3.
DeJean racked up 93 tackles, 16 pass deflections, four tackles for loss, two interceptions, one forced fumble, and one quarterback hit in 16 games. He allowed a completion percentage of 60.5% and a passer rating of 76.5.
Adding that both were Pro Bowl and All-Pro selections, what do fans get? The best CB tandem in the NFL.
When looking at the two, Mitchell has been the shutdown corner for the Eagles, who rarely allow a big play. DeJean is a versatile weapon who can play in the box and cover slot receivers.
A really cool thing about the cornerback room is that there is more talent than just DeJean and Mitchell. Riq Woolen is there now, and he's coming off a Super Bowl title win with the Seattle Seahawks. His 6-foot-4 frame makes it difficult to throw it on him at the goal line.
Eagles fans can't blame Newsome for wanting to talk up his position group and teammates. There are more appropriate things to say than that they have the best CB room in the NFL. He needs to look around the league and find others who are way better than what the Giants are trotting out on the field.
