The Philadelphia Eagles' offense will look very different with Joe Milton III as the starting quarterback. Still, this move could benefit one player more than anyone else: Hollywood Brown.
Milton is set to take over for Tanner McKee after the Eagles lost Jalen Hurts for the season to blood clots that traveled from his calf to his lungs. McKee went 0-3 as the starting quarterback, and the offense averaged about 17 points per game.
Philly hopes to give the offense a much-needed boost by having Milton jump into the starting lineup. For Brown, though, this is a massive decision the Eagles made, and it can only help him in the near future.
Joe Milton is giving Eagles' offense exactly what they need
Everyone is excited to see Milton play on the field because he can provide offensive coordinator Sean Mannion with the creativity this offense has been missing. Sure, Mannion called a wildcat formation play with Saquon Barkley and sent the back on a wheel route in the 27-10 Week 8 loss to the Washington Commanders, but this has really lacked in creativity.
The problem was that McKee just doesn't have a strong arm, with his longest pass being 34 yards to rookie Eli Stowers. That play happened at the end of the same Commanders game and it still wasn't even that deep of a pass, as it was more about Stowers picking up YAC yards.
Milton has a rocket arm, so he is going to have plenty of chances to go deep. That's what the Eagles' offense has been lacking since Hurts has been done is those deep passes that creates explosive plays.
Philly is going to ask more from their receivers to go down the field and help pick up big yards on deep passes. Brown has to be smiling from ear to ear knowing that he's got a quarterback that can do that for him.
Joe Milton could help Hollywood Brown with the future in Eagles' Week 9 game
Brown has had little impact on this offense until the last two games when DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks have been out with injuries. Smith and Wicks have not practiced this week yet going into the Week 9 New York Giants showdown, so that can only mean Brown will continue to get playing time.
This season, Brown has four receptions for 47 yards, all coming in the last two games. He also has two rushing attempts for 12 yards, which both came in the Week 2 win over the Tennessee Titans.
The Eagles have only really been using Brown on short routes and crossing routes in the middle of the field. While those are good plays for him to run as it gives him his chance to use his speed to pick up extra yards, Mannion is missing what the team really should be using Brown for.
Brown's ability really should be going downfield on a deep route and outrunning his defenders. He's got blazing speed that the Eagles really haven't taken advantage of.
With Milton now, the Eagles are going to call for more deep routes, which means more opportunities for Brown to make some plays. This could be the ticket Brown needed to up his trade value with the deadline less than a week away.
If Smith and Wicks are both out again, that will open the door for Brown to ball out and get traded before the deadline. The Eagles could get a better draft pick if Brown proves he can be a reliable WR2 or WR3 on a team.

This feels like a win-win situation depending on how things go. Brown has to be happy that Milton is taking the QB job, as some explosive plays are about to be created between the two.
