All eyes are on quarterback Jalen Hurts at Philadelphia Eagles training camp to see how he responds to an offseason filled with so much criticism.

Day 1 of practice in training camp is usually not intense since no pads are being put on this week, so it's all about running through the plays and getting back into shape. Hurts is learning a whole new offense under offensive coordinator Sean Mannion, so the extra reps on these first few days are critical.

After watching him step on the field and do his thing, many Eagles reporters started sharing their overall views on Hurts' play. SportsRadio 94 WIP Eagles reporter Eliot Shorr-Parks continued his training camp tradition of tracking Hurts' stats and giving him a great. For Day 1, Hurts completed 13-of-17 and received a B grade.

"It wasn’t a perfect practice but it was still an overall positive day for Hurts to start camp."

What Jalen Hurts did on Day 1 of Eagles training camp

So what all went into the "overall positive day" of practice for Hurts? Shorr-Parks shared that the Eagles quarterback was under center a lot and while he got off to a slow start with completing just one-of-three passes, the rest of the practice was solid.

"He had a really nice throw to Darius Cooper deep for about a 30ish yard completion. Cooper dove for the pass but it didn’t seem like he needed to, and had he caught it in stride it would have been a touchdown

Hurts had two really nice back-to-back throws toward the end of practice. First he hit Wicks over the middle(ish) for about a 15 yard gain. The pass was perfectly placed over Baun’s fingertips and dipped so only Wicks could get it.

He followed that throw with probably his throw of the day, hitting Devonta Smith over the middle in stride despite tough coverage from Quinyon. Devonta had room to run after the completion."

This is much different from the reports Eagles fans were getting at OTAs with Hurts. A lot of the early problems were that Hurts seemed to be forcing passes, leading to interceptions. He didn't have a turnover on the first day of practice.

While this isn't a 100% indication that Hurts is feeling it, it should be taken as really good news. This is the fast start Eagles fans needed Hurts to have and to continue to have.

It's understood that this thing is going to take time, but if he can prove that he can still play well while learning, the Eagles' offense can be dangerous. Hurts is already showing good chemistry with his receivers, and they are making big plays down the field.

This is only the beginning of something really special being built with the Eagles and their offense. Hurts had the exact kind of day that he needed: not perfect, but performed well enough to have the fan base confident that he is going to stick it to the doubters in 2026.
