Philadelphia Eagles fans rejoiced as the team gave defensive tackle Jordan Davis his well-deserved contract extension.
The Eagles secured Davis on a three-year, $78 million contract extension, with $65 million guaranteed. Davis will receive $26 million per year as part of the deal, making him the highest-paid nose tackle in NFL history.
While Davis was a massive priority of the Eagles and getting him a long-term deal, another guy that has been talked about is Jalen Carter, and what will happen with him. Carter's future going into last year seemed to be rock solid, but now there are way more options than ever before.
What will happen with Jalen Carter's future with the Eagles?
Carter is coming off a down season despite earning his second straight Pro Bowl selection. He finished the season with 33 tackles, 12 quarterback hits, seven pass deflections, five tackles for loss, and three sacks in 11 games. From random injuries to ejections, 2025 was a forgetful year for Carter and something to learn from.
That season actually might have done him more harm, as trade rumors have been spreading about Carter departing, which could completely flip the whole offseason. He was linked to the Las Vegas Raiders at one point for Maxx Crosby, but it has since been revealed that the Eagles weren't heavily involved in the Crosby trade talks. All of a sudden, he is now a candidate to be traded from the team, with reports of teams calling the Eagles about him.
The most logical option for the Eagles is to give him a massive contract extension that will keep him on the roster long term. Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones is the highest-paid DT in the NFL at $31.7 million per year. It's unknown whether the Eagles would get that high with Carter or end up giving him the biggest DT contract in NFL history.
Another option for the Eagles is to just pick up his fifth-year option and negotiate the contract next offseason. Philly would have to pay Carter $27.1 million in 2027, which would be the second highest among the 2023 NFL Draft class behind Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Zay Flowers, who will get $27.3 million for his.

There are plenty of options for the Eagles to pick from and they need to come up with a decision on Carter quickly. This could end up being a very busy beginning of the offseason for the Eagles.
