The Philadelphia Eagles' preseason opener really displayed where the team can do better, and general manager Howie Roseman didn't wait long to get the job done.

On social media, the Eagles announced they have signed cornerback Isaiah Bolden and released offensive lineman Hollin Pierce. Philly moves on from Pierce after he was an undrafted free agent last year for the Eagles.

Bolden was a former seventh round pick of the New England Patriots in 2024. In 14 games that year, he racked up 10 tackles, one tackle for loss, and one fumble recovery.

Eagles send a clear statement that Isaiah Bolden can help the secondary

The Eagles' secondary struggled against the Ravens in their 24-7 preseason loss. They allowed an 81% completion percentage for 298 yards and one touchdown to one interception in the loss.

Mac McWilliams got exposed pretty badly, racking up a team-high 10 tackles, but was targeted throughout the game because of his struggles. Kelee Ringo did not play that well either, but an interception made up for a lot of his mistakes.

Bolden enters the picture to help the Eagles in the secondary at a time where they need depth. This move might be more about Jakorian Bennett getting hurt in the preseason game, but still helps bring in some much-needed competition.

It will not be easy for Bolden, though, coming in three weeks late to training camp. The major advantage for Bolden is that he knows Eagles' new secondary coach, Mike Pellegrino , from their time together with the Patriots in 2024.

That might give Bolden the boost he needed to get some reps over the next two weeks. The Eagles hope that it can work out for Bolden, as they need him badly.

Meanwhile, Pierce being released is a disappointment since Eagles fans were high on him last year out of Rutgers. His massive size gave the fan base hope that he could make an impact on the line. Ultimately, he was not that great in the preseason and needs more development in his game.

Plus, the Eagles got really good production from the rest of the backup and third-string offensive linemen in the game. Pierce came out as one of the biggest losers from the Ravens game, leading to his release.

Expect Roseman to stay busy and add more players to the roster in the next two weeks.
