Well, well, well. The Philadelphia Eagles have some life to them after all and general manager Howie Roseman is ready to let the cornerbacks know that he means business.
NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that the Eagles have signed former Baltimore Ravens cornerback Robert Longerbeam to a contract. Schultz explained what went into the decision.
"The #Eagles had been quietly canvassing the league for another CB in recent weeks, and now sign one in Robert Longerbeam, who is fully healthy after suffering a torn patellar tendon last season."
Philly later announced that he is going to be on their practice squad. They also signed the following players:
- WR Danny Gray
- OT Kiran Amegadjie
- RB Jaydon Blue
Eagles bring in Robert Longerbeam to add competition to the CB room
Longerbeam was drafted by the Ravens in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Last year, he didn't play a snap after suffering a torn patellar tendon.
This is a welcome move for the Eagles, who are looking to build much better depth at the cornerback position, even if he is on the practice squad. The starters are already set with Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, and Riq Woolen, but outside options aren't far from the room.
Jonathan Jones has potential, but he missed most of camp with an injury, so there is some mystery to him. Kelee Ringo and Mac McWilliams really struggled in training camp and somehow found a way to make the 53-man roster.
This clearly shows that McWilliams and Ringo have been put on notice. If the Eagles run into trouble at cornerback with their six, bigger questions need to be asked.
Longerbeam seems like a solid player, but last year's injury is a bit of a concern. That's not exactly the best way to start a career for a player. He seems to have recovered and is ready to play, which is good.
The Eagles need all the help they can get with the cornerbacks on the bench. Their depth is a bit scary, but this could either solve the problem by removing a corner or push others on the bench, like Jones, McWilliams, and Ringo, to play better.

More of the story still needs to be figured out, like whether anyone is leaving the roster or whether changes are coming at cornerback in the future. Eagles fans will have to wait and see how Roseman cooks on this situation.
