Many players on the Philadelphia Eagles should be considered the heroes of their wild 33-26 win over the Los Angeles Rams in Week 3.
The biggest name might end up being defensive tackle Jordan Davis, who blocked the field goal and returned it for a touchdown to seal the win. Wide receiver A.J. Brown had his first 100-yard game of the season. Quarterback Jalen Hurts picked up the load after calling for the team on the sidelines to throw it more and delivered with three passing touchdowns.
All those guys were great and absolutely deserve their flowers for coming through in the clutch. One guy, though, will not be forgotten by the Eagles fan base as the true hero of the Eagles-Rams game.
Fred Johnson put on his Superman cape and delivered at right tackle
Eagles starting right tackle Lane Johnson left the game after the first drive with a neck injury, which he later revealed to be a stinger, and should return for Week 4. Matt Pryor came in to replace him, and he allowed a sack within two plays. When Pryor was on the field, the Eagles had 15 plays, seven yards, and on his last play, he allowed his defender to strip-sack Hurts.
After that, Fred Johnson, who had not practiced at right tackle before the game, was thrown in and delivered big time. On four drives, the Eagles scored three touchdowns and gained 260 yards.
Johnson came up big at the most pivotal moment when the team was down by 19 points and sparked the comeback. His teammates, Hurts and Saquon Barkley, could not stop gushing over Johnson's impact on the game.
"I love that," Barkley said via NBC's Dave Zangaro. "I remember when we were told that Fred was coming back, it put a big smile on my face. Obviously, you want depth at that position. Fred’s a starting tackle in this league. He came up big."
“Showed up and showed out when his number was called on," Hurts said. "It’s a beautiful game.”

Credit also needs to be given to Eagles general manager Howie Roseman for bringing Johnson back. After leaving the Eagles in the offseason to sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Roseman recognized the depth issues on the offensive line and pulled off a Sunday trade last month to get Johnson back on the team.

Without Roseman making that trade, the Eagles might have been stuck with Pryor and lost that game by more. Johnson deserves a ton of credit for helping the Eagles move to 3-0 on the season with his heroic play at a position he hadn't played all season during practice.
