Howie Roseman takes another gut-punch loss with Eagles' front office after draft

Oh man another one gone.

Everyone in the NFL has been trying to emulate what the Philadelphia Eagles have done over the years because of the success of general manager Howie Roseman.

That has led to many within the organization departing for other jobs and taking promotions across the other 31 NFL teams. Just a few weeks ago, Eagles vice president of football operations Jeff Scott left the team to become the Atlanta Falcons' assistant general manager.

Well, another office member is gone again, as this time, NFL insider Mike Garafolo reports that once again, the Falcons hired another one from Philadelphia, with this time being executive Bryce Johnston. Falcons general manager Ian Cunningham and Johnston worked together in Philly from 2017 through 2021, as Johnston will be Atlanta's SVP of Football Administration/Senior Personnel Executive, becoming the team's lead negotiator and helping with the salary cap.

Eagles again lose another key member to the front office

Movement like this is pretty typical in front offices, as most teams like to keep their key members until the draft. After that point, it makes sense to start fresh and make changes quickly before OTAs get underway in May.

Johnston released a statement after the news came out expressing his appreciation for his time with the Eagles.

“Before moving on to a new challenge in Atlanta, I wanted to take this time to thank Jeffrey Lurie, Howie Roseman, and Don Smolenski for the opportunity they gave me over the past 10 years. The high level of success achieved by the organization begins with their commitment to pursuing every possible competitive advantage, and I greatly appreciate the trust they placed in me to contribute to that philosophy. “I feel very fortunate to have been able to work closely with and learn from Howie and, now, be in a position to take those insights with me as I move forward. The organization is filled with first-class people who perform their jobs at an extremely high level, and I am very proud of everything that we accomplished together. “The aspect of this experience that I have valued the most is the time spent and relationships built with current and former colleagues. There are too many to list, but in particular, I would like to thank Jake Rosenberg for making this opportunity a reality and mentoring me as I began my career in the NFL. It took this rare opportunity to work with some of those same former colleagues to even consider moving on. Being an Eagle meant a lot to me, and I will look back at my tenure in Philadelphia as a special time in my life. Go Birds.”

Looks like the Eagles are going back to the drawing board on adding yet another new member to the front office or promoting from within. This is the price to pay when teams win.
