Stay calm Philadelphia Eagles fans. We understand the feeling.
There isn't a single Eagles fan during the first half of the Washington Commanders game in Week 16 that is feeling any good about kicker Jake Elliott. It has been a rough last five weeks for Elliott, but he hit a new low with two missed field goals.
Really, it's three missed field goals, but the Commanders were offsides on one of them. Elliott missed a 43-yard and a 52-yard field goal in the second quarter, with all the misses being hooked to the left of the field goal post from the television view.
When are the Eagles going to accept the Jake Elliott problem they have?
How bad have the last five games been for Elliott? That is now four games in the previous five in which he has missed at least one field goal.
Last season, he only made one of seven field goals from 50 yards or more. Going into the Commanders game, he had gone four of seven from 50 yards or more.
For the season, Elliott has made only 77.3% of his field goals in 14 games. He is pacing to have the worst season of his career, which is 73.7% field goals made in 2020.
This is where Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has to finally step on and bring in competition. Elliott needs to be pushed to do better and know that if he messes up, another kicker will jump right in and replace him.
In the offseason, the Eagles will have to address the kicker position for the long term. That will either be done through free agency or the NFL Draft.
