Jake Elliott won't allow departed Eagles player to take blame for his mistakes

Good for him for doing that.

There was a slight change made to the special teams this week that has caught more attention than many Philadelphia Eagles fans would have expected.

It was good news on the injury front as long snapper Charley Hughlett had his 21-day practice window opened after being on IR for his abdominal injury. That resulted in the Eagles releasing his replacement, Cal Adomitis.

With kicker Jake Elliott's recent struggles with three straight games of a missed field goal, people started putting two and two together with Adomitis getting blamed for the misses and losing, while Hughlett snapping had the Eagles 4-0 on the season, and Elliott hitting all four of his field goals. Elliott was not about to let Adomitis take accountability for him missing field goals.

"I don't know that you can necessarily make that correlation," Elliott said via The Athletic's Zach Berman.

"Really, Charley was hurt, Cal came in. Charley's healthy, I'm excited to have him. back."

Elliott is taking accountability for missing field goals

It seemed like an absolutely ridiculous narrative being built out on how Adomitis was the reason behind the losses and Elliott's misses. No one seemed to complain over the last two months about the snaps being bad.

The truth of the matter is Elliott has been slumping, which dates back to last season. Elliott only made one field goal out of seven attempts from 50+ yards. He has only made 76.2% of his field goals during the regular season this year.

It has been a problem for a while, but no one seems to want to address it. Elliott never has competition come in, so he never has to fear for his job. Bringing in another kicker will certainly help push him to be better and hit his field goals.

Hughlett coming back is a good thing for the Eagles, but let's keep in mind that Elliott is the only one to blame for his misses. Good for Elliott for not letting a player who got cut take the blame.
