Jalen Carter's next projected contract might not be as bad as Eagles fans thought

That wouldn't be terrible.

One of the biggest topics discussed throughout the summer for the Philadelphia Eagles is what they will do regarding star defensive tackle Jalen Carter and a potential contract extension.

The Eagles already picked up his fifth-year option on his rookie deal, but many are still waiting to see whether the extension will be agreed upon during the offseason or after the 2026 season. Bleacher Report writer Alex Kay projected massive contracts that could be coming soon in the NFL, predicting Carter will get a three-year $99 million contract.

"Although the Eagles can keep Carter on his current rookie contract through the 2027 campaign after exercising his fifth-year option, the team shouldn't wait anywhere near that long to get a deal done. Carter has proven himself at the highest level and should soon solidify his importance to Philadelphia's defensive efforts with a record-setting defensive tackle contract."

Jalen Carter's contract might end up being pretty good for Philly

Carter might be coming off a down season in 2025, but he has been a top-three defensive tackle in the NFL since his rookie year in 2023. He has made the Pro Bowl twice in 2024 and 2025.

The projected contract from Kay would be a decent deal for the Eagles, as it would only be for three extra years and still come out to about $33 million per year. That average salary would be high, but it's expected with a player of Carter's caliber.

It's the contract length that would appeal to the Eagles, as it's shorter than other deals. That would give the Eagles something of an out if Carter's durability and maturity remain a question for the young defensive star.

Philly already has Jordan Davis down on a three-year contract extension, so there is a good chance the Eagles match that length with Carter. The money will be different, of course, with Carter's resume being more impressive than Davis'.

It's going to be a big next few months for the Eagles as they will show how they truly feel about Carter right now. A new deal now would show their belief in him, but holding off would mean he's got more to prove. As long as the contract is doable for the Eagles, fans don't care when the deal gets done.
