Things with the Philadelphia Eagles seem to be getting off to a great start between offensive coordinator Sean Mannion and quarterback Jalen Hurts, to the disappointment of all those haters looking for drama.
Mannion got a chance to speak to the media for the first time since taking over as OC in late January. He received many questions about Hurts, as he had said he enjoyed working with the quarterback and getting to know him. Mannion further praised Hurts for his abilities on the field.
"I really think he can do anything we ask of him," Mannion said via The Athletic's Zach Berman. "He's accurate. He's a great athlete. He really attacks the fundamentals. That's what's been really fun to watch these last two weeks of phase two. He's always coming, wanting more things to work on, wanting more things regarding fundamentals, timing, understanding the scheme. He's hungry for more. Those are the guys that are really fun to work with.
"In terms of skill set: He has great arm strength, great accuracy, obviously a tremendous athlete, and he really attacks the game. He has a great process in the meetings. He always asks really thought-provoking questions. He's detailed and attacks his fundamentals."
Sean Mannion loves everything about Jalen Hurts's skill set on the field
For a first-time play caller, Mannion has to feel good that Hurts is going to be the first quarterback he works with. Hurts already has an incredible resume, with three Pro Bowls, two Super Bowl appearances, one Super Bowl win, and Super Bowl MVP honors.
It certainly helps, too, that Hurts is on his seventh different play caller since joining the NFL. He has all the skills in the world, but that inconsistency at OC has not helped in his development, giving Mannion a chance to take his quarterback's game to the next level.
The Eagles' offense is going to be in a good spot with Hurts running it on the field and Mannion bringing a completely different system. Hurts and Mannion seem to be working well together so far, with the two having mutual respect for each other.

A lot can change over the course of the next few months, but this OC-QB combo is already looking like they are going to work well together, much better than Hurts and Kevin Patullo did last season.
