Philadelphia Eagles fans have been waiting since January to hear from new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion, and he was finally available to answer questions.
All three Eagles coordinators spoke with the media as they are less than a week away from OTAs. Mannion was saved for last, as the very first question to him was about how things were going with former Super Bowl MVP quarterback Jalen Hurts, and the response from the new coach was exactly what fans wanted to hear.
"Yeah, I think it starts really just connecting with him on a personal level," Mannion said. "Get to know him. Get to know what his interests are. What makes him tick, and then when you start to kind of get to know a guy on a personal level, the football connection becomes pretty easy. It's been a great process with Jalen (Hurts). He's been a pleasure to work with, and since really I got the job. Being able to connect with him on a personal level and football has been great."
Sean Mannion talks Jalen Hurts for the first time in public
This is the relationship everyone will be monitoring, as Hurts is on his seventh play-caller since joining the NFL in 2020. He is coming off a season in which Kevin Patullo was the offensive coordinator, but after the team finished in the bottom 15 in every offensive statistical category, Patullo was relieved of his duties.
Not much is known about Mannion as an offensive coordinator, since this is his first OC job after just two years as an assistant coach for the Green Bay Packers. What fans do know is that he will completely change the offense, as he will run a scheme similar to those of Sean McVay or Kyle Shanahan.
It's going to open up the offense in ways Eagles fans have never seen before. Hurts will be challenged to throw the ball downfield more and be open to the changes coming to the unit, which he has reportedly been receptive to so far. In fact, during the offseason, Hurts has been complimentary of Mannion and what he will bring to the table.

Mannion and Hurts' relationship will make or break this franchise, and it might even affect who has jobs in 2027 and who has to look elsewhere. Eagles fans are praying this sticks and works out for them, as they need a great season from the offense.
